The core activity of our business is undertaking Hackney Carriage (Taxi) Unmet Demand Surveys for licensing authorities throughout the UK.
Owing to the impact of COVID-19 and establishment of the ‘New Normal’, Unmet Demand Surveys now tend to be a more holistic review of licensed vehicle provision and passenger demand, rather than solely focussing on hackney carriages. The impact of COVID has resulted in changes to both the availability of licensed vehicles and the number of passengers seeking to use licensed vehicles.
In Scotland, we have also undertaken Private Hire Overprovision Studies and assisted the Scottish Government with development of the guidance for undertaking these studies.
In addition to the established practice of Unmet Demand Surveys, we also undertake increasing numbers of test purchasing campaigns for licensed vehicle services. These test purchases can be related to general levels of service experienced by passengers, or targeted to capture the experience for specific user groups such as wheelchair users or guide dog users.
LVSA have been increasingly involved in providing consultancy advice and practical support to ever more stretched licensing authorities throughout the UK.
